Believing in Yourself...

I started a photography class last week, and he gave us homework to do. We were supposed to take 1 picture that was black & white, and 2 that had unique lighting! So I went out took some pictures and sent them to him, and didn't think there were too good, but not bad. When we met back at class today we went through everyone's pictures and we would all vote as a class what B&W picture we liked the most and what colored unique lighting one we liked the most. There were a lot of good pictures in there and I thought I didn't have a chance at winning. When it came time to vote people would raise their hands when the picture they liked came along. So we are scrolling through the pictures and we get to mine and almost the whole class raised their hands. I must say I was a little surprised. I really thought there were others that were cool. Anyway, so I won for the B&W picture. I couldn't believe it, and all at the same time it made me happy. For the colored picture this girl won, but when we were going back through and got to one of my colored pictures the teacher said he was surprised that no one had voted on that one cause it was a harder picture to take. Anyway, so the 2 pictures I submitted were the teachers favorites!! In my head I couldn't wait to tell Jason. I am always doubting myself and my abilities as a photographer. Tonight it gave me a little more confidence. I just wanted to share with you all the very happy night I had. Oh, and the teacher is the owner of Allens Camera and for winning I get a free 11x14 print from his store, and so I am going to print my winning B&W picture to remind me that I can do what I put my mind to, and I shouldn't think less of my self. I realize that by thinking I was not as good was a form of pride, just like if I thought I was better than everyone else out there. So always believe in what you do, and don't put yourself down. :) Here are the 2 pictures that I had submitted. Thanks for reading my rambling,
Kelli

Hey Kelli,

I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one that doubts myself. I have been struggling with self doubt as well- especially since I started my internship here in Virginia. Everyone that I work around is older than me and has a lot more experience and education. But I have to keep reminding myself, "I can do this!" And Kelli, you are an amazing photographer. You can do it too!
